Just recently my husband and I took a trip to Washington DC to visit President Lincoln… I mean, AJ’s brother Pat and his wife Candice. They took us to a variety of touristy areas and I, of course, took pictures. I’m only posting the least touristy shots on here, I’ll spare you from having to wade through the photos of so-and-so posing in front of such-and-such. We didn’t get to everything though, so another trip is in the works and more photos will likely come of it.

Our first stop was the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. This was an authentic totem pole from the Northwest, it made me nostalgic for all the museums I saw when I was a kid in Washington state and they were all over the place.

Of all the skeletons, this one was one of my favorites. It was like it was peeking around a corner and saying, “hey guys!”

This is part of the Mineral and Gems exhibit at the Natural History Museum, it’s a sheet of copper ore that could make something like 12 million pennies.

Later in the week we went to the Hirschorn Museum of Modern Art. I’m only posting a couple of these, since the art itself isn’t mine I feel odd for taking credit for a good photo of it.

After the Hirschorn we found a childhood memory of mine! The National Mall carousel. When I was younger, my dad went to DC on business and brought me back a page full of stickers of each of the horses from the carousel. They were so pretty and ornate that I never used them, just stashed them away in one of those “memory boxes” that kids always make. Above was the horse that was my favorite.

That pretty much wraps up the good shots I got on the trip, but here’s one just for fun:
